The 2nd Amhara Agricultural Forum 2017 (AAF-2017) organized by SMIS and BiT-BDU in collaboration with International Water Management Institute was held in Bahir Dar

The 2nd Amhara Agricultural Forum 2017 (AAF-2017) was taken place in Bahir Dar, on 16 Jan 2018 at  Jacaranda Hotel, Bahir Dar, Amhara, Ethiopia. The Forum was organized by Small Scale and Micro-Irrigation Support (SMIS), and Bahir Dar Institute of Technology-Bahir Dar University  in collaboration with International Water Management Institute. Dr Seifu A Tilahun and Dr Mamaru A Moges were representing Bahir Dar Institute of Technology.

The 1st Amhara Agricultural Forum 2016 (AAF '16) was held, jointly organized by SMIS, AgroBIG and One Acre Fund.  One of the outcomes of the workshop was to continue the Forum and Bahir Dar Institute of Technology of BDU has taken the initiative to organize the 2nd AAF with SMIS. The objective of the forum was to share project results, plans in the sector, any research relevant to agriculture and explore the potential for future collaboration in the Amhara region.

In the 2nd forum, there were more than 50 participants from IWMI, SMIS, Texas A& M University, BoA, Abbay Basin Authority, ATA, ARARI, AgroBig, ADSWE, BDU and private sectors. There were 20 presentations and the issues in the presentations were wide with topics of technologies for agricultural intensifications, technology adoptions in small scale irrigation (SSI), gender in SSI, Fodder production in SSI, conservation agriculture with irrigation to produce vegetables, rainfed agriculture management, water-food-energy nexus in SSI, and the general agricultural issues within Amhara. Bahir Dar Institute of Technology was represented by 9 presentations in the forum.

The Forum was closed with way forwards and the 3rd forum will be organized by ARARI toward the end of 2018.
