Far reaching efforts were made by government of Ethiopia to establish autonomous institutes of technology at national level recognizing the hardhearted fact of shortage of manpower in technology and engineering disciplines. In this regard, Bahir Dar Institute of Technology at Bahir Dar University envisaged being a centre of excellence in producing personnel equipped with basic skill in Science, Technology and Innovation for the development of the country and is also mandated to provide with a forum for debate on core technology transfer issues. Looking round the globe, it becomes evident that most of the universities have established such institutes for linking research with technological products on sustainable basis.
On one hand, identification of major stakeholders and taking valid indicators e.g. economic, social and cultural values into account while devising educational curricula is a decisive factor. For this, multidisciplinary approach is needed in combination with trandisciplinarity to study and govern science and technology. Therefore, our role at Bahir Dar Institute Technology is to provide a platform for acquiring this knowledge through undergraduate and postgraduate studies and research activities.
We are adequately equipped to carry out design and consultancy services, material test, food and water quality analysis, and material characterization. In fact our facilities are used by students and staff within our University as well as from other national Universities in and outside Ethiopia, which extends our internationalization strategies. Moreover, we envision integrating Universities, Industry, and Government in a tighter bond to produce, use, and disseminating knowledge and technology to the community.
In the end, I would extend my warm wishes to all Deans/Directors, academic officers, chair holders, faculty and Administrative staff of Bahir Dar Institute of Technology (BiT) for their future course of core process of the higher institutions.
