Training on Troubleshooting and Maintenance of Pico-Solar Systems

Bahir Dar Energy Center at Bahir Dar Institute of Technology center confected training on troubleshooting and maintenance of Pico-Solar Systems and Solar Home Systems.

The training is new and inspirational of its kind done by joint effort of Bahir Dar University (Bahir Dar Energy Center), Fosera Manufacturing Plc, Private business owners of Amhara region and University of Ulm (id-eee). Sixteen participants from Bahir Dar University and another sixteen participants from private sector working in solar energy has participated in the training.  The private sector solar energy players are called and take cared by GIZ and Fosera Manufacturing PLC.

As the director of the Energy Center, Mr. Kassa Wudineh, said we all know Ethiopia is situated near the equator and more than half of its 91 million people are not connected to the grid. This affirms the timeliness and suitability of solar home systems for electrifying the rural scattered farmers of Ethiopia. And for that we need trained and dedicated Engineers in PV. Now-a-days the Ethiopian Government, private businessmen and non-governmental organizations are tilting their effort/ business to the solar energy sector.  With these sunny truths it seems overwhelming and timely to host such kind of training here at Bahir Dar University.

Professor Peter, well known professor in PV Engineering from id-eee, delivered the training to more than 32 trainees. That was an opportunity for the young engineers of our university to get practiced how to diagnose defected PV systems, and how to design a solar home system tailored for a specified task including rural health centers and schools. Furthermore the professor shows affinity to strengthen this kind of capacity building training to the PV lecturers in our University. The training culminated successfully by certifying the participants in due time.
