Professor Tamirat Tesfaye is currently serving as the scientific director of EiTEX-BDU. In just 16 years after getting his bachelor degree, he became the youngest professor ever in the university at the age of 37. He reached at the top of the academic ladder, publishing 94 articles on reputable journals and contributing 18 more as book chapters and proceeding papers. As a child, his dream was to pursue studies in dentistry or biomedical fields but influences from his older brother and senior dorm mates at BDU led him to join engineering fields particularly textile engineering. Consequently, he got his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from BDU in Textile Engineering and Textile technology in 2008 and 2012 respectively. He earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering in 2018 from RSA’s University of Kwazulu Natal. Similarly, he completed his post-doctoral studies in Bio-refinery process from CSIR Biorefinery Development Facility at RSA. In 2017, he was able to win the best researcher award of RSA Chemical Engineers Association. In the same year, he also won Kwazulu Natal University’s best researcher award for graduate students. He was also selected among top 30 researchers of BDU while being a graduate student, too. His research caliber enabled him to win 8 multimillion research project grants together with other fellow researchers.

Besides serving as instructor, researcher and scientific director, the young professor has served previously as department head, academic program officer, dean of post-graduate studies of the university, head of the material research laboratory and EJTA & JRIF research journals. The elegant, determined and friendly professor feels his traits of scrupulous planning, devotion to envisaged duties and strong belief in team work substantiated with tested experience in actively participating and leading various student clubs and unions has led him to realize his dream ahead of time and made him serve at higher levels.
