Bahir Dar University

Bahir Dar University was established by merging two former higher education institutions; namely the Bahir Dar Polytechnic and Bahir Dar Teachers’ College. The Bahir Dar Polytechnic Institute, which has transformed itself into Technology and Textile institutes, was established in 1963 under the technical cooperation between the Government of USSR and the Imperial Government of Ethiopia. The institute was a premier institute in producing technicians for the nation.

Bahir Dar University Graduates its students

In a ceremony held today, Bahir Dar University proudly announces the graduation of 8,524 students (5488 males and 3036 females) across a diverse range of programs, yet again marking its significant contribution in providing the country with the required qualified human resource. The cohort includes graduates from regular, summer, continuous, and distance learning programs at various levels, from certificates to doctoral degrees.

Alumni Success Story!

Professor Tamirat Tesfaye is currently serving as the scientific director of EiTEX-BDU. In just 16 years after getting his bachelor degree, he became the youngest professor ever in the university at the age of 37. He reached at the top of the academic ladder, publishing 94 articles on reputable journals and contributing 18 more as book chapters and proceeding papers. As a child, his dream was to pursue studies in dentistry or biomedical fields but influences from his older brother and senior dorm mates at BDU led him to join engineering fields particularly textile engineering.
