Today, the construction industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in Ethiopia influencing the socio-economic development process and contributing approximately 8% of the GDP. However, the industry’s current practices are relatively traditional and require means and methods to improve the process, environment, and culture through advancement in technology, research and innovative approach by integrating various stakeholders.

Call for Technology Transfer

The University Industry Linkage and Community Service office Wants Staff to participate in technology transfer to the community. Bahir Dar Institute of Technology-Bahir Dar University hosted a Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) EXCEED-SWINDON regional meeting

Bahir Dar Institute of Technology-Bahir Dar University hosted a Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) EXCEED-SWINDON regional meeting, from 10 to 14 November 2016 at Grand Resort & Spa-Bahir Dar. The regional meeting, gathered SSA network representative from University of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso; Maseno University, Kenya; Mekelle University and Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia, University of Malawi, Malawi; University of Kara, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, Kenya and University of Lomé, Togo.

Training on Project Scheduling with primavera and Contract administration Faculty of Civil and Water Resources engineering through Construction Technology and Management chair has conducted two consecutive training to faculties and physical project staffs. A total of 35 participants had attend both training by the sponsor of BDU Physical project office. The first training was Project planning and scheduling held from October 21-22, 2016. The training introduced on project planning, assigning resources to project, resource leveling, predicting project risks, scheduling with premavera software and evaluating project schedule.
Training on Geochemistry & Isotope Hydrology applications in Water Resources Management Faculty of Civil and Water Resources engineering through hydrology chair has conducted a training to faculties and graduate students on geochemistry and isotope hydrology applications in water resources management. There were 15 participants. The training introduced the applications of geochemistry and isotopes in hydrology, sampling of waters for lab analysis, how to present data, applications of Isotope hydrology using 18O-2H : H2O; 15N-18O: NO3; 222Rn; 13C-DIC; 3H; 14C and mass balance of geochemistry parameter (such as chloride) to separate baseflow from surface runoff.
Consultative meeting and field trip held at Finote Selam Consultative Meeting and field trip held on 15-16 Oct 2016 in Finote Selam town by inviting watershed experts from Bureau of Agriculture, 4 universities and 20 watershed experts from 20 Woredas affected by gullies. The meeting has disseminated the outputs of PEER science Project that was commenced with the support of USAID before 4 years in three watersheds (Debre Mawi, Bir-Enechilala and Mizewa).
