Message from The Dean

Greetings!

It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to the website of the faculty of computing Bahir Dar University, one of the biggest public researches University in Ethiopia.

Currently our Faculty, Computing is running Four undergraduate programs namely, computer science, Information Science, Information Technology, and software Engineering  We have also two graduate programs in computer science and Information Technology.  A brand new curriculum  in Software Engineering will be launched in the near future.

Computing Faculty is doing researches on various research areas that engages our senior researchers and masters students.  We are also working researches and projects with the School of water resource and Civil Engineering in establishing low cost satellite Image Receiving and Dissemination.  

In addition to educating major curricula, we also offer programs that teach all students how to use information technology more effectively in their fields of interest, whether they are business, science or even the fine arts.

We offer Internationally recognized short term certificate programs like Cisco, Linux Professionals Cerfication(LPCI). We have also other short term curricula in Electricity, Automation, PC maintained, Multimedia, System Installation and Basic Computer Skills. Our short term curricula are very flexible to meet the demands of our clients.  Consulting services on our fields of specialization are supporting the region.  Our revenue generation team is working hard to be an enterprise so that the service we are providing increase in quality and type.

We have successfully hosted a national level conference that has left with us lot of experience sharing and connection with professionals, industry and the government officers.  In the two days conference several research papers, which most of them are focused on energy and the power sector in Ethiopia, were presented.

This year, one of the focuses is again on staffing programs created over the past three years. We are continuously upgrading our laboratories.  We are also working on developing collaborative researches and project. In addition we are highly engaged on community services more than ever we had before.

Home to 1,500 undergraduate and 60 graduate students, close to 160 regular staff members, and many part-time professors and contractual personnel, the school is a major player in education and in the advancement of knowledge in Ethiopia. And the University of Bahir Dar, Public University, offers numerous opportunities for educational and extracurricular.

This update is only a glimpse at what we have achieved in this year, and I am confident that our students, staff can look forward to continuing success in our many exciting future endeavors.

Duties and Responsibilites of the Director

  •  Developing & articulating the mission, vision, and objectives of the Faculty in consultation with chairs and in agreement with BiT strategic plan
  • Formulating the faculty’s strategic and annual plans and submitting the plan for Scientific Director of BiT;
  • Communicating and inculcating the faculty’s strategy, vision, mission and objective to faculty members, and internal and external stakeholders;
  • Develop, together with the faculty Chairs, Academic program officer and Academic Council, core process performance standards, procedures and guidelines;
  • Developing better work systems, environment and incentive system so as to improve the
  • motivation, efficiency and effectiveness of staff;
  • Establish and maintain bilateral and multilateral partnerships with international and local bodies;
  • Represent and advocate his faculty in internal and external affairs, in external intellectual and social affairs and events; attend and speak on behalf of his/her faculty on annual process and BiT meetings;
  • Ensure the provision of resources, facilities, training and education needed for the faculty’s staff;
  • Developing better work systems, environment and incentive system so as to improve the motivation, efficiency and effectiveness of staff;
  • Establish and maintain bilateral and multilateral partnerships with international and local bodies;
  • Represent and advocate his faculty in internal and external affairs, in external intellectual and social affairs and events; attend and speak on behalf of his/her faculty on annual process and BiT meetings;
  • Ensure the provision of resources, facilities, training and education needed for the faculty’s staff;
  • Ensure that budget for scholarship related costs such as airfare are allocated in their annual plans.
  • Ensure the delivery of adequate, continuous and relevant staff development, training and education programs in collaboration with international partners, university leadership and others;
  • Implement continuous quality management and process improvement initiatives;
  • Develop appropriate staff development programs in line with the target performance goals of the faculty’s core processes;
  • Conduct periodic and continuous impact assessment and evaluation on the performance of the faculty’s core processes;
  • Benchmark local and foreign best practices in areas related to the faculty’s services and deliverables and process;
  • Undertake any other related tasks given by the scientific director/deputy scientific director
