We are pleased to announce that ICT4D Research Center, in collaboration with HausaNLP research group of Bayero University Kano, Rewire, Language Technology Group (LT) - Universität Hamburg, Masakhane and LIAAD INESC Technology and Science - Associate Laboratory have successfully secured a Lacuna Fund grant to develop resources for Hate and Offensive Speech detection in 18 African Languages.

Call for Proposals

The ICT4D Research Center kindly invites staff of BDU to apply for this call for proposals for possible funding. The new research proposal shall address existing problems using ICT-related remedies and have a special relevance to development of the country. The proposals should be in line with the research thematic areas of the research center: Natural Language Processing, Wireless and Mobile Communication, e-Service and Artificial Intelligence. The final output of the research must be published in a reputable journal.

New research group heads Recruited

ICT4D Research Center has recruited three highly qualified researchers from Academic staffs of Bahir Dar University to lead E-Service, NLP and Intelligent Systems research groups. E-service and NLP research heads replacements of previous research heads who have left the research center due to personal reasons. The third one will lead newly launched Intelligent systems research groups. The research center warmly welcomes the new appointees and hopes the researchers put their utmost effort to enable the research center meet its vision.

3rd ICT4DA Conference

ICT4DA 2020 is the 3rd international conference that aims to bring together researchers, engineers, developers, and practitioners from the academia and the industry to present and discuss their research work in the area of ICT for Development.
