Bahir Dar Institute of Technology (BiT), School of Civil and Water Resources Engineering has held Seminar on  “Construction Quality Improvement- is it a matter of attitude or Technology.”

While welcoming guests and researchers at the Conference, School Director Dr. Seifu Admassu noted that construction quality is a subject of critical issue this time in Ethiopia and in the region and it is also a hot issue that everybody discusses about. “The problem could be resolved by initiating such kind of platform with government organization, contractors, consultants, individuals and students involved in the construction sector.” said Dr. Seifu.

 

Chief Organizer of the conference, Ato Alemayhu Golla, Chair of Construction Technology, the objective of the conference was to present and discuss actual situation, problems and solutions of construction quality in Ethiopia. More than 200 Participants were attaining the seminar from construction industry around Bahir Dar, academic staffs, graduate and undergraduate students.  As per the

 

The speaker of the Seminar, Dr. Ephraim Senbetta a visiting professor at AAU and the founder of the American Concrete Institute Ethiopian Chapter, stressed in his talk about the contribution of attitude on the construction quality. “We can improve construction quality if we avoid the attitude of correcting it later” expounded Dr. Ephraim. According to Dr Ephraim, construction quality problem in Ethiopia is more of attitudinal than lack of technological skill. Interestingly, the speaker argues that quality improves profitability to  the construction sector which is poorly pursue by many stakeholders.  Reflections were forwarded from the participants, mentioning the timely platform and updating the state of art of construction technology in Ethiopia. Moreover, participant appreciate the organizer members and hope to have such kind of forum in the future. .  Finally, the school director has appreciated the effort made by Dr. Ephraim Senbetta  for his time and dedication to share his ample experience to our staff and community.  The seminar was sponsored by Ethiopian Road Authority.
