Consultative Workshop on Collaboration and Partnership

The Institute has conducted Consultative Workshop to start collaboration and partnership with Osaka Institute of Technology, and Tokyo Institute of Technology of Japan. The aim of the workshop was to initiate the collaboration between Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, the two Institute of Technology’s in Japan, and stakeholders in Ethiopia for developing a joint research project in water supply, weather and climate monitoring. In this workshop, two professors from Osaka Institute of Technology, and Tokyo Institute of Technology of Japan, 10 participants from ministry of Water, Irrigation and Engineering, National Meteorology Agency, Disaster Management and Food Security, and Abbay Basin Authority, and 15 instructors from BDU were participated.

In his welcoming speech, the BiT Scientific Director, Dr. Nigus Gabbiye stated that the institute has used multidisciplinary approach to provide a platform for acquiring quality education in undergraduate and postgraduate studies, to carry out research,  design and consultancy services, and , to deliver community service activities. In this regard, this consultative workshop will assist us to create an academia and forum to start joint researches and projects with the international universities and local stakeholders to solve the problems of the community.

In this workshop, major problems on water supply, flooding, and environmental and climate conditions are discussed. Possible technological solutions, and draft project proposals that will assist to solve these problems are presented. Then, based on the discussion, five working groups (that composed of staffs from BiT, Japan University and National Stakeholders)  are formed  to work on  further action plan and proposal development
