Bahir Dar Energy Center Has Hosted its Second Conference

Bahir Dar Energy Center has hosted its second round national conference on the title Energy for Sustainable Development on June 12, 2015

The conference was conducted with the aim of sharing knowledge, identifying knowledge gaps, building awareness on the engagement of Bahir Dar University on energy research through bringing together stakeholders. Besides, the conference targets at organizing the existing knowledge here at Bahir Dar University into useful knowledge package and establish formal inter university and organizations contacts for future collaborative work.

On his opening speech,  the Scientific Director of BiT, Dr. Nigus Gabbye said that the institute has tried the best to establish energy for development network with stakeholders and  other universities  that aims to enable a step-change in collaborative research and project development addressing the energy needs of rural communities in the country. Thus, this conference helps us to organize and share knowledge in sustainable Energy areas among the stakeholders and the universities   

In the conference, 11 scientific papers and 6 posters that show the ongoing activities of the center were presented. The conference formally created platform for inter university/ organizations collaborations. Moreover, the participants also got the opportunity to present/ discuss their own research findings and experiences within the theme of the center. The conference papers and posters focus on local particularities like waste to energy, technologies for harnessing solar energy, wind energy analysis of Adama II and Jijiga areas including the energy management opportunities for the manufacturing sector. There were many participants from the industry, ministry and other universities.

In this regard, the conference themes include:

·         Hydropower (Small, Mini & Micro)

·         Energy Efficient System
