PhD Dissertation Public Defense was held at BiT-BDU.

Dr. Tsegahun Mekonnen successfully defended his PhD dissertation in Chemical Engineering (Process Engineering and Design) titled "Development and Characterization of Low-Cost Flat Sheet Ceramic Membranes for Water Desalination by Membrane Distillation." His research has focused on a number of areas, including fabricating and characterizing flat sheet ceramic membrane from metakaolin, grafting and characterizing hydrophobic flat sheet metakaolin based ceramic membrane, as well as characterizing, beneficiating in a variety of operating conditions, and using Ethiopian kaolin for the manufacture of low-cost kaolin-based ceramic membranes.
 
Examiners Prof. Esayas Alemayehu, Professor of Water and Environmental Engineering, Jimma Institute of Technology (JiT), and Prof. Zebene Kiflie, Addis Ababa University, Addis Ababa Institute of Technology, School of Chemical and Bio Engineering, Environmental Engineering Chair, posed a number of questions and comments, which were later followed by public inquiries. Later on the committee awarded Dr. Tsegahun Mekonnen's dissertation an "Excellent" grade after carefully examining it and hearing his explanations for the forwarded questions. His advisory board included Dr. Nigus Gabbiye, Chair of SDAC, Dr. Mulugeta Admasu and Dr. Zenamarkos Bantie, whom all are members of SDAC.
