International Conference on AI4D Africa Scholarship Project scientific conference has been held in Addis Ababa

The African Centers of Technology Studies, in partnership with Bahir Dar Institute of Technology at Bahir Dar University and Addis Ababa University, successfully hosted the AI4D Africa Scholarship Project Scientific Conference from December 10 to 13, 2023, in Addis Ababa.
Dr. Firew Tegegne, President of Bahir Dar University, as the guest of honor innuagurated the conference featuring a comprehensive overview of the Bahir Dar University (BDU) and an insightful presentation on the current state of research in the realms of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).
Attended by representatives from more than 22 universities across 18 African countries, the conference served as a platform for AI4D African scholars, their mentors, project personnel, policymakers, and partners to engage in meaningful discussions about the imperative for research and development in responsible AI and machine learning across the African continent.
BDU participants including Professor Seifu Admassu and Dr. Fasikaw Atanaw took the stage to present groundbreaking research, with a focus on "AI Advancements for Environmental and Energy Solutions in Africa." Additionally, Mr. Elias Sime, a PhD student from BDU, showcased his research on "Advancement in Water Resources Management Using ML: Water Quality and Flood."
A pivotal outcome of the conference was the establishment of a network of AI experts, fostering collaboration among participating institutions. To further enhance cooperative efforts, a joint Master's curriculum has been developed, ensuring that partners can continue their collaborative journey in the dynamic field of AI and machine learning. This initiative aims to contribute significantly to the responsible and sustainable development of AI across Africa.
