Seminar on Transboundary Water Resources Management

Dr. Assefa M. Melesse a Professor of Water Resources Engineering in Florida International University, USA made an impressive speech on “Transboundary Water Resources Management: Challenges and Lessons” to Bahir Dar Institute of Technology staffs and students.
Dr Assefa shared his rich worldwide experiences towards the challenges and lessons in the Transboundary water resources management. He explained the experiences in America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. He has briefly discussed the issues of the Nile River, and recommends the possible solutions to avoid the water scarcity and the conflicts in the region. He has also indicated the possible thematic areas that need to be addressed in the upper Blue Nile basin.
There were various participants from the institute and from the university. The participants raised questions on:
• How to solve the food security issue on the upstream counties
• How to manage the conflict when dealing the trans-boundary rivers
• Who will benefit from cooperative the agreements between the upstream and downstream countries
The questions were well addressed by the speaker.
