About the speaker 
Alemayehu Gebissa was born in Ethiopian in 1965. In 1986 he went to Germany where he enrolled at the University of Rostock. He studies amelioration engineering from 1987-1992 (after that the subject at the University of Rostock was called regional culture and environmental protection and today environmental engineering). As a particularly successful student, he received a performance scholarship from the GDR (Germany). After 1989, his plan to do a doctorate in the GDR was jeopardized for a while, but he managed to do it even after reunification of west and East Germany. Today, Alemayehu Gebissa is a professor at the Institute for Geotechnics and Coastal Engineering at the University of Rostock and at the same time honorary professor for road and path construction at Jimma University in Ethiopia.
